In this episode, Greg and Dave discuss Indy 5 AKA Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny (2023), Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) and Witness for the Prosecution (1957). Plus there’s a look at Dave’s summer adventures in the U.S.
One of the summer blockbusters this year was the highly anticipated and divisive fifth installment in the Indiana Jones saga. Harrison Ford returns to the role of the famed adventurer for a final outing. He is joined by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelson, John Rhys-Davies, Karen Allen and Antonio Banderas. Indy 5 involves a race against time to retrieve a legendary artifact that can change the course of history.
Secondly we discuss the excellent animated feature Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse which is a follow-up to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). In this extraordinary sequel Miles Morales catapults across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. When the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles must redefine what it means to be a hero.
The other big animated feature to be released this year was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. With similarites to the Spider-Verse movies, this exciting and highly entertaining movie gives us a fresh new look at the Ninja Turtles and includes fantastic voice performances from Jackie Chan, Ice Cube and John Cena.
The final movie we discuss in this episode is the classic courtroom crime thriller Witness for the Prosecution which stars Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich and Charles Laughton. The film was directed by the legendary Billy Wilder and was based on the play of the same name by the legendary writer Agatha Christie.
