In this episode of More Movies Weekly, Greg and Dave discuss Kate (2021), the action thriller film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Miku Martineau and Woody Harrelson. The film is a loose remake of D.O.A. (1950), a film where Edmond O’Brien‘s accountant character is poisoned and seeks revenge before he dies.
Meticulous and preternaturally skilled, Kate is the perfect specimen of a finely tuned assassin at the height of her game. But when she uncharacteristically blows an assignment targeting a member of the yakuza in Tokyo, she quickly discovers she’s been poisoned, a brutally slow execution that gives her less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her killers. As her body swiftly deteriorates, Kate forms an unlikely bond with the teenage daughter of one of her past victims.
They also discuss the recent criticism from Marcia Lucas about the quality of the sequel Star Wars trilogy from Disney in J. W. Rinzler‘s new book Howard Kazanjian: A Producer’s Life, the complaints about the No Time To Die (2021) running tIme from many corners of the internet as well as a discussion on the length of films and the pro’s and con’s. There is also a discussion about Christopher Nolan’s new movie deal with Universal after his falling out with Warner Brothers at the end of 2020 aswell as other movie news.
