Everyone is talking about Marty Supreme and the Oscars this week after Timothée Chalamet made some comments about nobody being interested in opera and ballet anymore. Some seem to think this may have hurt his chances of receiving the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role at this year’s Academy Awards.
In this episode we discuss Marty Supreme (2025) directed by Josh Safdie and give our opinions on the movie whilst also discussing its chances of winning the prestigious golden statue across various categories.
We also talk about Bugonia (2025) directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. This sci-fi remake is based upon a Korean film called Save the Green Planet! (2003) and has garnered a Best Actress nomination for Stone.
Who could ignore Brad Pitt‘s latest turbo-fuelled action drama F1 (2025) which has been nominated for Best Picture and was produced by the legendary Jerry Bruckheimer. We talk about the movie and how it has been crititiqued in the light of its nomination.
As far as the British contingent is concerned in terms of representation at this year’s awards, we also talk about Hamnet (2025) which is nominated for Best Picture and has also resulted in nominations for director Chloé Zhao and Lead Actress Jessie Buckley. We discuss the film’s emotional impact and its chances of picking up the Oscar in of these categories.
